Manaf Hasan (b. 1981, Syria) is a contemporary Syrian sculptor whose work explores the inner worlds of human beings and their relationship with the complexities of modern life. He studied at the Adham Ismail Centre for Fine Arts in Damascus and trained under Syrian sculptor Ghazwan Alaff. Alongside his sculptural practice, Hasan has worked as a photojournalist for Syrian newspapers and magazines, an experience that has brought him into close contact with the realities of everyday life.

The human figure lies at the heart of Hasan’s artistic practice. Through expressive gestures, dynamic postures, and carefully balanced compositions, he portrays individuals navigating feelings of isolation, confinement, uncertainty, and longing. His sculptures often reflect the contradictions of contemporary existence, where the desire for freedom and connection encounters the pressures of an increasingly complex world.

Working primarily in bronze and other metals, Hasan explores the relationship between material, movement, and space. He gives particular significance to the space surrounding his figures, using it as an active element of the composition. Windows, chairs, and grids recur in his work as symbols that can suggest both possibility and restriction, reflecting the tension between the individual and the world beyond.

Hasan has participated in numerous group exhibitions, artistic workshops, and local and international art events, receiving awards in several local competitions. In 2024, Zawaya Gallery in Damascus hosted his first solo exhibition in Syria, titled Narrow Worlds, featuring bronze sculptures that examined the emotional and psychological realities of contemporary life.

Through his expressive treatment of the human figure and his sensitive use of material and space, Manaf Hasan transforms sculpture into a reflection on isolation, freedom, and the search for meaning in a world that often feels increasingly confined.
