Zouhier Haseeb (b. 1960, Hasakah, Syria) is a Syrian painter whose work explores the emotional depth of human experience through expressive forms, rich colours, and symbolic imagery. He graduated from the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 1984, where he studied under the influential Syrian artist Fateh Moudarres, who had a lasting impact on his artistic vision.

Rooted in the landscapes, colours, and cultural memory of northeastern Syria, Haseeb’s work reflects a deep connection to the people and environment that shaped him. His paintings frequently feature human figures, particularly women, whose expressions and gestures convey tenderness, sorrow, resilience, and a longing for freedom. Rather than simply depicting individuals, he uses the human figure as a vehicle for expressing collective memory and the complexities of the human condition.

Colour plays a central role in his artistic language. Through vivid, warm tones, expressive brushwork, and symbolic compositions, Haseeb creates images that balance the harsh realities of life with a persistent affirmation of beauty, love, and hope. His work has also responded to the Syrian conflict, increasingly exploring themes of suffering, coexistence, and the human capacity to seek beauty amid adversity.

Throughout his career, Haseeb has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Syria and internationally. His works are held in public and private collections, including the Syrian Ministry of Culture, the National Museum in Damascus, and collections across Europe and the Middle East.

Haseeb’s artistic practice brings together personal memory, cultural identity, and human emotion, transforming the language of colour and the human figure into a powerful expression of dignity, compassion, and hope.
