Sameer Al Safadi

Sameer Al Safadi

Sameer Al Safadi (b. 1982, Majdal Shams, Syrian Golan) is a Syrian painter whose work explores the psychological and emotional dimensions of the human experience through expressive colour, dramatic compositions, and symbolic imagery. He graduated from the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 2007 and received his master’s degree in 2015.

Al Safadi’s artistic language is rooted in expressionism, with elements of abstraction that deepen the emotional and symbolic character of his paintings. His compositions often feature human figures, fragmented forms, and contrasting colours, creating visual narratives shaped by tension, memory, and uncertainty. Rather than simply depicting external events, he seeks to convey their psychological impact and the complex emotions they leave behind.

The relationship between personal memory and place is central to his practice. Drawing on his experience of the Syrian Golan, Al Safadi explores themes of belonging, separation, conflict, and identity. His use of dark, earthy tones alongside vivid colours and moments of light creates a powerful tension between suffering and hope, reflecting both individual experience and wider social realities.

Since 2002, Al Safadi has participated in numerous exhibitions in Syria and internationally, including exhibitions in Europe and the Middle East. His work has also been presented at international art events and auctions, including exhibitions at Ayyam Gallery in Dubai.

Through his expressive use of colour, gesture, and symbolism, Sameer Al Safadi transforms the anxieties of contemporary life into deeply human visual narratives, balancing the weight of difficult realities with an enduring search for hope and meaning.
